Donald Trump is a polarizing figure!

Talking about Trump isn’t easy. Some people seem to have an almost magical belief in Trump. It’s like a cult. These aren’t the people we need to talk to. Instead, we need to talk to open-minded people who want the best for Ukraine and are willing to make a decision in the 2024 presidential election based on the facts. Here are suggested approaches when talking to people about Trump.

1. Don’t argue. Provide access to the facts and let people make up their own minds.

2. Listen to the other person’s point of view. Identify areas where they have legitimate concerns or questions and help them locate responsive facts.

3. Be patient and kind. People will be persuaded as much by the emotional impact of the conversation as by the facts you present.

4. Be a model. By your conduct and respect for others, concern for Ukraine, and commitment to facts, be an example for why to vote against Trump.

5. This is about voting against Trump. A vote for no one is better than a vote for Trump. Trump is in a league with a Putin.

6. Offer to be helpful and to search out further answers. Rather than disagreeing, smile and keep the conversation open.

7. Don’t look for a quick outcome. Often people make up their minds and are persuaded in time.

8. Spread the word with a smile.

9. Be confident you are right. Know your facts. The facts are clear. You really are right.

10. Let the other person know that no matter what they decide or say, they have your respect. All of us want what’s best for Ukraine. No matter what happens in American politics, it is important for our community to be unified. We must be unified against Putin.
